This is the last week in our first term. I am working on assessments to help me see the growth that each student has shown over the past five months. It is a very exciting time for me, as the growth that students do is always so encouraging.

I am looking forward to being able to sit down with each of you and share your child's growth at our Parent-Teacher Conferences. Please set aside time on Wednesday, February 2 between 5 and 8 in the evening to come to the school and visit our classroom. Your child's work will be here to look at. I will be here, eager to sit down and chat about their progress. And you can pick up their report card at that time.

We also welcomed a new student to our class last week, Trinity. She is quickly learning the routines of the fourth grade. I am very proud that the rest of the class has worked to make her feel welcome. What a great group of students!

Happy New Year

Well, I was a bit premature in changing the format of our newsletter without even checking that everyone would have access to it. I apologize for that. As not everyone has Internet access in their homes, I will continue to send home a paper copy as well as posting our news on the blog. After all, there is really no point in writing a newsletter that no one can read.

Welcome to 2011! I am very excited about the next six months. We will be very busy in the classroom getting ready for fifth grade. Regular attendance is essential to that preparation, so please make sure that your child is here every day. Also, they are an important part of our classroom community. When a student is absent we all miss them.

Our classroom schedule has changed a bit for the new year. An updated copy is being sent home with the homework for the week. Please post it on the refrigerator at home so you can stay up-to-date on what your child is doing each day at school.

We have a very short week to start the new year; 3.5 days. Since that doesn't leave much time in the evenings for homework, there is only a math assignment for this week. Students are reviewing addition of 3- and 4-digit numbers in math. Their assignment is some practice with this. Remember that homework is due on Thursday, January 6.
